Measuring principle of the fiberoptic thermometer

The fiber optic thermometer probe consists in a non-metallic Teflon coated fiber with a GaAs (gallium arsenide) chip fixed to its tip.
GaAs becomes optically permeable at wavelengths above 850 nm. This is due to the position of the materials band edge which depends on temperatures and moves 0.4 nm each Kelvin.
A light source as well as a device for spectral detection of the band edge position are integrated into the measuring instrument. This allows its temperature calculation.
